Letter to the Editor
San Diego Union-Tribune

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority has exclusive responsibility for the county?s regional airport system and is completing a thorough and logical process to analyze all possible solutions to our airport capacity problems.

Recently, Assemblyman George Plescia proposed blocking a San Diego County vote on a new airport location currently scheduled for November 2006. Plescia proposes to tell San Diegans when they can and cannot vote on an issue of major importance to the entire region.

His actions to delay or derail the Airport Authority?s efforts to find a solution to the airport dilemma are not in the best interests of the citizens of the San Diego region. Worse, Assemblyman Plescia sends an insulting message to the citizens of San Diego by telling them they aren?t responsible enough to control their own ballot initiatives. We believe that the voters want this issue addressed now, not in the distant future when it will be too late to effectively address our future airport needs. The process must be allowed to proceed to a site selection vote in November 2006.

Let San Diegans determine their own future.

Sincerely,

John Chalker
President

Ray Robbins
Chairman, 2004
